Intern Program
Path to Excellence
What is it?
Join us for Path to Excellence, a half-day virtual event on Friday, January 3rd. This program is designed to introduce students to Smith + Howard, providing insights into our firm and the services we offer. Participants will have the opportunity to explore various career paths within the accounting field, helping them to identify their areas of interest.
Following this event, we will conduct virtual interviews on Friday, January 10th, for students interested in Spring 2026 internships. We look forward to engaging with you and supporting your career aspirations in accounting.
Who is it for?
If you are an accounting, finance, or related-major student who has any interest in working in public accounting, this is for you!
Why apply?
If you are looking for internship and/or full-time employment opportunities with a continuously top-rated firm in the Atlanta area, we would love to have you join! You will have the opportunity to hear from several members of our PEOPLE team who will be giving a general overview of the firm, as well as people from each of our main departments who will be giving short presentations on what a day in the life of their team looks like. After each presentation, students will have time to ask the presenters any questions they may have.
Minimum Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- GPA of 3.0 or above

Choose Your Path
Assurance
You may enjoy an Assurance internship if you:
- Like working on a new project each week
- Enjoy building relationships and corresponding directly with clients
- Perform well in a collaborative, hands-on environment
- Prefer project-based deadlines rather than seasonal deadlines
Our Assurance team offers several services to our clients such as audits, Employee Benefit Plan audits and SOC Reporting.
Within the assurance team, you will work on financial statement and Employee Benefit Plan audits. You will have an opportunity to visit clients, improve communication skills and gather audit documentation from clients. Our assurance team members work directly with leadership to perform staff-level testing and review for clients in an array of industries.
Accounting
+ Advisory
You may enjoy an Accounting + Advisory internship if you:
- Prefer a non-traditional path within accounting
- Enjoy partnering with clients to help achieve business objectives
- Enjoy an out-of-the-box approach to finding solutions
- Prefer a less structured environment, with flexibility to define your role
The Accounting + Advisory team offers on-site accounting, bookkeeping and Controllership Services to handle day-to-day accounting. Functions could include financial statement preparation, month-end closing and monthly/quarterly reporting. Additionally, the A+A team may act as an advisor for operational needs such as Mergers and Acquisitions, internal audits, financial modeling, data analytics and process automation.
Tax
You may enjoy a Tax internship if you:
- Like having a similar to-do list each day
- Prefer being less-client facing
- Enjoy self-led or independent work
- Like puzzles and problem solving
- Perform well under pressure and are comfortable with a deadline
We offer tax services for businesses, private clients and international organizations, while also providing guidance on credits, incentives and indirect taxes.
As a member of our tax team, you can expect to assist with varying tax return preparations (individual, S-corp., C-corp., partnerships, trusts, etc.) across a variety of industries. You will learn popular tax return software while receiving regular training and feedback from supervisors.
